Goodnow Library is hosting a Hobbit Immersion Camp from July 10 to July 21.

We'll meet on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 1pm to 3pm to discuss J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit. We'll also be doing crafts related to the book.

Signum University (an online institution) is sponsoring this free program in partnership with local libraries across the country. This program is designed to get middle-schoolers involved in a guided, interactive summer reading program based on Tolkien’s classic fantasy story.

Signum University will provide online live presentations led by a veteran teacher who has been teaching The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings as a literature elective at the middle-school level for ten years in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Campers (ages 10-15) will read the assigned chapters, participate in the online classes, and then meet at their local library for discussion and to work on individual or group projects.

Activities will include rune deciphering, riddle solving, sculpting trolls, making your own trail mix, designing your own Middle Earth avatar, archery competitions, crafting your own sword or battle axe, trivia quizzes and other Middle-Earth-based games.

Registration for this event has now closed.
