The Bookies met to discuss Lives of a Cell: Notes of a Biology Watcher, by Lewis Thomas. A collection of essays relating the interconnectedness of life with biology as a starting point for diverse topics. We greatly enjoyed the author's wisdom and wit.

For our next book we'll discuss the novel, An Irish Country Village, by Patrick Taylor. Published in 2009, this is one of the author's early titles in a series that follows an eccentric older country physician and his younger partner. Set in Balleybucklebo, a fictional Ulster Irish village in the 1960s, the Bookies should get a dose of country medicine, old-fashioned values and a cure of salty and sentimental characters. It may even prove a good bet to win us a literary Irish sweepstakes!

We'll meet on Tuesday, May 8 at 7 pm.

Feel free to pick up a copy at the Circulation Desk at the Goodnow Library and join in for an enjoyable discussion without any blarney.
