The Bookies discussed Einstein's Dreams, by Alan Lightman. This brief and unconventional novel written by a physicist offered an imaginative reflection on potentials of the bending of time and its effects on the human condition. As we began our discussion some of our group had reservations about the book. When we concluded our meeting, we all became more aware of the rich possibilities the author provided. Relatively speaking, we booked a 'dream winner!'

Our next selection is Call it Sleep by Henry Roth. This critically acclaimed novel was written in 1934. It has since become a classic. Generous in imagery and sensory experience, the story follows a child's remarkable experiences navigating the American and Yiddish cultures off immigrant life in New York slums of the Depression era. Navigate your own way to our next discussion on Tuesday, February 6th at 7 pm at the Goodnow Library.  Copies of the novel will be available at the Circulation Desk.
