The "Bookies" discussed Magpie Murders, by Anthony Horowitz. Though magpies can be pretty shady when it comes to murder, our group nested together for a sunny discussion! We decided this two murder-mysteries-in-one was a double-stakes winner!

Our next selection also comes as a double, with two short novels. One, The Bookshop, published in 1978, by Penelope Fitzgerald, involves a young woman who takes over an old building to install a bookshop. But the locals in this small town in England have other ideas. Our other choice, John Steinbeck's To a God Unknown, published in 1933, finds a family crossing into California with homesteading on their minds. But the head of the family, Joseph Wayne, has epic dimensions in mind. Will this American family survive?

The Bookies intend to do more than survive at the next table discussion which you are most cordially welcome to join in on Tuesday, June 25, at 7 pm. Pick up copies of the selections at the Circulation Desk.
